David Berry
My love for nature comes from my American Indian heritage. I was born in Tahlequah, Ok. the capital of the Cherokee Nation. Though I grew up in south central Oklahoma, I spent many wonderful summers in and around Tahlequah, the Cookson Hills, Lake Tenkiller and the Illinois River all teeming with wildlife and wonderful landscapes. I have been fortunate to travel in the Western states and view the glories of the Rocky Mountains and desert southwest.
I obtained my first 35mm camera while I was on active duty in the U.S. Army. During my tour of duty I learned my way around a darkroom. I also purchased my first medium format camera: a Yashica 635 twin lens camera, a most remarkable camera for the price.
After the Army I purchased my first Canon 35mm SLR and began shooting daily. I returned to college and made sure that I took some art and photography classes to help develop my eye.
After college I worked in the oil industry and continued shooting. I developed skills in industrial photography and expanded my darkroom experience to color. During this time I was fortunate to be able to travel to foreign countries and, of course, take my camera with me.
I moved to Central Texas and was exposed to the plains and hill country of Texas. While living in Waco I completed a photography course through Canon and received a certificate from the Canon Photography Masters school. This course lasted 9 months and required me to send in assignments and have them evaluated by the instructors at Canon. It was a good learning experience.
I moved to Northwest Arkansas 12 years ago and began shooting more nature and landscapes. I have also moved into the Digital age using a Canon 20D and Canon S5 IS cameras.
Today, my specialites include Fine Art, Landscapes and Nature. I am also pursuing on-location portraiture and am working on a project that will provide affordable aerial photography via radio control (R/C) helicopter.
